Life & History of Connecting Kentuckiana

This is the development of the Connecting Kentuckiana Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). From beginning to end, this is a list of the activities that have been a part of bringing about the final draft of the document (anticipated in 2014).

January 19, 2012:
Initial meeting with Williams Randall and Taylor Siefker Williams, marketing consultant, to discuss what KIPDA staff envisioned for the upcoming Metropolitan Transportation Plan.

March 22, 2012: KIPDA staff briefed the Transportation Policy Committee (TPC) on the MTP update at the TPC meeting. The logo and name (Connecting Kentuckiana) were revealed.  The update was discussed as well as the public involvement components of the MTP. 

March 29, 2012: KIPDA staff met with TPC member Bullitt County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts about Connecting Kentuckiana.

April 4, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the following TPC members about Connecting Kentuckiana: Floyd County Commissioner Steve Bush and Jeffersontown Mayor Bill Dieruf.

April 9, 2012: KIPDA staff met with TPC member Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore about Connecting Kentuckiana.

April 10, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the following TPC members about Connecting Kentuckiana: Oldham County Judge/Executive David Voegele and Shively Mayor Sherry Conner.

April 11, 2012: KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee (TTCC) at their regular meeting.

April 12, 2012: KIPDA staff met with TPC member Charlestown Mayor Bob Hall about Connecting Kentuckiana.

April 16, 2012: KIPDA staff met with TPC member St. Matthews Mayor Bernard Bowling about Connecting Kentuckiana.

April 17, 2012: KIPDA staff met with TPC member INDOT Seymour District Official Kathy Eaton-McKalip about Connecting Kentuckiana.

April 18, 2012: KIPDA staff met with TPC members from the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and KYTC District 5 about Connecting Kentuckiana.

April 25, 2012: KIPDA staff met with these TPC members about Connecting Kentuckiana: Middletown Mayor Byron Chapman, representing the Jefferson County League of Cities, and Clark County Commissioner Ed Meyer.

April 26, 2012:
KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Policy Committee at their regular meeting.

April 26, 2012: KIPDA staff issued a press release about Connecting Kentuckiana and the community workshops.

April 30, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the Southern Indiana Transit Advisory Group and collected transportation-related issues surveys to help with the update process.

May 1, 2012: KIPDA staff maintained a presence at the “Be Local” expo at The Grand in New Albany and had participants complete Connecting Kentuckiana surveys.

May 2, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Savvy Seniors program, which aired on May 5. The program’s focus was on Connecting Kentuckiana.

May 4, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the Kiwanis of Historic New Albany about Connecting Kentuckiana and collected completed Connecting Kentuckiana surveys.

May 7, 2012:  A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in the Oldham Era.

May 7-June 24, 2012: Online display advertising concerning Connecting Kentuckiana began.

May 8, 2012: KIPDA staff followed up with area media about Connecting Kentuckiana.

May 9, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

May 10, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Voice Tribune.

May 10, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Louisville Defender.

May 10, 2012: Staff attended the One Southern Indiana Network of Champions to promote the Connecting Kentuckiana workshops.

May 13, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

May 14, 2012-June 24: Connecting Kentuckiana billboards were placed in 12 different locations throughout the five-county region.

May 14, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at Goshen Elementary School and the Middletown Community Center.

May 15, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at the Shively Community Center.

May 16, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

May 16, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the TRIAD Senior Day at the Tri-County CAA in LaGrange. Senior residents were provided the opportunity to complete surveys and discuss their transportation issues.

May 17, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at the Oldham County Fiscal Court.

May 17, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the Jefferson County League of Cities and officials were presented the opportunity to fill out Connecting Kentuckiana surveys and comment forms.

May 18, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in a call-in radio program on WLOU. Residents were able to discuss their transportation issues with KIPDA staff.

May 19, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in News & Tribune.

May 21, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at Highland Hills Middle School in Georgetown, Indiana, and the Louisville Science Center.

May 22, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Spencerian College Health Fair. Attendees were able to fill out Connecting Kentuckiana surveys and comment forms as well as discuss issues with staff.

May 23, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

May 24, 2012: KIPDA staff presented a Connecting Kentuckiana update to members of the Transportation Policy Committee at their regular meeting.

May 24, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at St. Matthews City Hall.

May 28, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Pioneer News.

May 30, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

May 30, 2012: KIPDA staff discussed Connecting Kentuckiana with the Regional Mobility Council.

May 31, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at the NIA Center.

June 2, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in News & Tribune.

June 2, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Americana Community Center’s World Festival. Attendees were provided the opportunity to complete Connecting Kentuckiana surveys and comment forms and discuss issues with staff.

June 3, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

June 4, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at the Urban County Government Center in Louisville and Paroquet Springs Conference Center in Shepherdsville.

June 5, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at the Griffin Street Center in New Albany and the City of Mt. Washington Annex Building.

June 6, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

June 7, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Louisville Defender.

June 7, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Voice Tribune.

June 7, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at Republic Bank in Louisville and the Southwest Regional Library in Louisville.

June 9, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in News & Tribune.

June 9, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Hispanic/Latino Health Fair at the Americana Community Center.  Attendees were provided the opportunity to fill out Connecting Kentuckiana surveys and comment forms as well as discuss issues with staff.

June 11, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at the Newburg Library in Louisville and the Jeffersontown Community Center.

June 12, 2012: KIPDA staff met with Louisville Metro Councilwoman Attica Scott to discuss Connecting Kentuckiana.

June 12, 2012: Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshops were held at Charlestown, Indiana Library and at the Fairdale Library in Louisville.

June 13, 2012: KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee at their regular meeting.

June 13, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

June 13, 2012: KIPDA staff spoke with the New Albany Kiwanis and they were provided the opportunity to complete Connecting Kentuckiana surveys and comment forms.

June 14, 2012: KIPDA staff attended the One Southern Indiana Network of Champions to provide an opportunity for business leaders to discuss their transportation issues and concerns.

June 16, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in News & Tribune.

June 18, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at Bon Air Library in Louisville.

June 19, 2012: Staff met with leaders of the St. Matthews Chamber of Commerce to prepare for a focus group centered on Connecting Kentuckiana.

June 19, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at Fern Creek Library in Louisville.

June 20, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana ad ran in The Courier-Journal.

June 20, 2012: KIPDA staff spoke with attendees of the Louisville Car- Free Happy Hour concerning Connecting Kentuckiana.

June 21, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at Clarksville, Indiana Town Hall.

June 22, 2012: KIPDA staff manned a station at the Floyd County Animal Rescue League’s event at the Sportsdrome in Clarksville, Indiana. Attendees were able to complete Connecting Kentuckiana surveys and comments forms as well as discuss issues with staff.

June 25, 2012: KIPDA staff met with officials from LG&E concerning Connecting Kentuckiana.

June 26, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at the Crescent Hill Library.

June 28, 2012: A Connecting Kentuckiana Community Workshop was held at the Ken Ellis Senior Center in Jeffersonville.

June 28, 2012: KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Policy Committee at their regular meeting.

July 3, 2012: Staff met with Kyle Elmore, Public Issues Chair for the Young Professionals Association of Louisville, to discuss Connecting Kentuckiana and transportation issues.

July 3, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the Kentucky Mountain Biking Association about Connecting Kentuckiana.

July 5, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the New Albany Rotary Club.  Attendees were asked to complete surveys, submit comments and discuss transportation issues.

July 9, 2012: KIPDA staff met with leaders of One Southern Indiana concerning a focus group.

July 10, 2012: KIPDA staff held a focus group meeting with the Louisville Metro TRIAD at Swiss Hall in Louisville.

July 11, 2012: KIPDA staff updated the Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee on Connecting Kentuckiana at their regular meeting.

July 16, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Dixie Highway Corridor meeting to provide information on Connecting Kentuckiana.  Attendees were able to complete surveys and submit comments.

July 17, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the Young Professionals Association of Louisville’s Public Issues Committee focus group regarding Connecting Kentuckiana.

July 18, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the Home Builders Association of Louisville to discuss Connecting Kentuckiana.

July 19, 2012: KIPDA staff met with a Catholic Charities focus group to discuss Connecting Kentuckiana.

July 19, 2012: KIPDA staff attended the Network Center for Community Change’s Network Nite. Attendees were able to submit comments and complete surveys with regard to Connecting Kentuckiana.

July 19, 2012: Staff presented Connecting Kentuckiana to the Louisville Metro Planning Commission.

July 23, 2012: KIPDA staff held a focus group meeting with area bicyclists.

July 25, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce.

July 25, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the St. Matthews and Middletown Chambers of Commerce.

July 26, 2012: KIPDA staff met with the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce.

July 26, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the South Louisville Neighborhood Place Back-to-School event to provide information on Connecting Kentuckiana.  Attendees were able to submit comments and complete surveys.

July 26, 2012: KIPDA staff updated the Transportation Policy Committee on Connecting Kentuckiana at their regular meeting.

July 30, 2012: KIPDA staff held a focus group meeting with the South Louisville Neighborhood Place.

August 6, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the TARC Accessibility Advisory Council about Connecting Kentuckiana. Attendees were able to submit comments and complete surveys.

August 8, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the KIPDA Aging Advisory Council about Connecting Kentuckiana. Attendees were able to submit comments and complete surveys.

August 16, 2012: KIPDA staff held a focus group meeting with One Southern Indiana.

August 16, 2012: KIPDA staff presented to the Jeffersontown Chamber of Commerce about Connecting Kentuckiana. Attendees were able to submit comments and complete surveys.

August 25, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Sojourn Health Clinic to provide information on Connecting Kentuckiana.  Attendees were able to submit comments.

August 31-September 2, 2012: KIPDA staff maintained a presence at WorldFest to provide information on Connecting Kentuckiana and provided an opportunity to submit comments and discuss issues with staff.

September 7-8, 2012: KIPDA staff participated in the Middletown Family Fun Festival to provide information on Connecting Kentuckiana.  Attendees were asked to submit comments and discuss transportation issues.

September 12, 2012: KIPDA staff updated the Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee on Connecting Kentuckiana.

September 27, 2012: KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Policy Committee. Committee members also go to do some hands-on activities as we discussed Transportation Analysis Districts and mapping comments.

October 10, 2012: KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee. Committee members also go to do some hands-on activities as we discussed Transportation Analysis Districts and mapping comments.

October 25, 2012: KIPDA staff presented an update on Connecting Kentuckiana to members of the Transportation Policy Committee.

October 30, 2012: KIPDA staff met with Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee Chairman Jim Urban to discuss the formation of the Connecting Kentuckiana Issues Working Group.

November 14, 2012: KIPDA staff updated the Transportation Technical Coordinating Committee on Connecting Kentuckiana.

November 14, 2012: KIPDA staff met with Louisville Metro to discuss coordination of the Louisville Metro Vision Louisville and Connecting Kentuckiana planning efforts.

November 20, 2012: KIPDA staff updated the Transportation Policy Committee on Connecting Kentuckiana at their regular meeting.

November 28, 2012: The Connecting Kentuckiana Issues Working Group met.

December 12, 2012: KIPDA staff met with Louisville Metro to discuss coordination of the Louisville Metro Vision Louisville and Connecting Kentuckiana planning efforts.

January 7, 2013
: KIPDA staff met with Kentucky's 3rd District Congressman John Yarmuth to discuss Connecting Kentuckiana.

february 24, 2013
: KIPDA staff established a goal working group of the TPC.

MARCH 4-5, 2013: KIPDA staff hosted an FHWA "Intergrating Planning for Operations" workshop.
